NI electrical trade represented at Seoul skills event
The 36th World Skills Competition in Seoul, South Korea has seen a strong all-round performance from Northern Ireland in the electrical sector.
Alex Lockhart, from Craigavon firm Cameron Electrics, scored the highest mark of any competitor in the electrical section, which saw each entrant’s skills tested over a four-day period. Emphasis was placed on the demonstration of both knowledge and practical skills covering installation, maintenance and services for industrial, commercial and domestic premises.
Alex’s training programme commenced in 2000, and was co-ordinated by the Skill ELECTRIC Organising Committee with financial sponsorship from the Electrical Contractor’s Association. The Committee is now focusing on the selection process for the next World Skills Competition, to be held in Switzerland in September 2003.
Commenting on the Seoul event, Alex added: “This was the experience of a lifetime and I would like to thank all those who enabled me to be here, especially Fred Cameron, my employer, for all the encouragement and the time off, and Jeff Pinner, of Stourbridge College, who has helped throughout and accompanied me to Seoul.” (CL)

Northern Ireland man appointed ECA President
David Dennison has been appointed as the new President of the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA). Taking up his office on 11 May 2002, at a ceremony during the ECA Electrical Industry Conference, the appointment of David Dennison marks the second time a Northern Ireland member has been appointed President of the Association.
