Seven New Jobs 'Assured' As 17 Lost
Seven financial jobs are to be created in Dublin as part of the expansion of an international insurance company - but more have been lost in another sector - the newspaper industry.
Ironshore provides broker-sourced insurance on a global basis through its platforms in the UK, the States, Canada and Bermuda. Ironshore Europe Limited will now be set up in Dawson Street in the city centre.
The company was granted a Certificate of Authorisation from the Central Bank last month and operations will take effect immediately.
In other employment news, the Sunday edition of the Irish Daily Star is to close with the loss of 17 jobs.
The Irish Daily Star Sunday newspaper, also known as Star Sunday, has been published since 2003.
The paper has never recorded a profit despite a readership of 217,000, and last year reported losses of over €1 million.
The Managing Director of Independent Star Ltd, Paul Cooke, said the paper was projected to lose more money in the current year.
He said the decision to cease publication would have no impact on the Irish Daily Star, which is expected to report 2010 profits of almost €6 million shortly.

Dublin Incinerator Plan May Hit Jobs
Around 2500 jobs will be lost if plans to build an incinerator in Dublin go ahead, the Irish Waste Management Association (IWMA) has claimed. According to a report in the Irish Times, the IMWA warned an Oireachtas environment committee about the ramifications of the construction of the Poolbeg facility.
