Sx3 to partner with Viglen on NI £16m education contract
A £16 million IT contract for Northern Ireland's education sector has been awarded to Learning Technology plc, the parent company of Viglen Ltd, who will work in partnership with local IT services provider, Sx3.
The contract will establish Viglen as a National Grid for Learning (NGfL) Managed Service provider to Northern Ireland's 574 small primary schools and 20 training and support centres.
London-based Viglen will be working in partnership with Sx3 on the major roll-out which will commence in October 2001 and will last for one year, with 80 schools being installed with the latest ICT equipment each month.
Noel Brady, sales and marketing director of Sx3 said: "This is a ground-breaking initiative and we look forward to working with Viglen at a local level. Our extensive experience in the delivery of complex projects to the entire education sector has helped ensure the teaching profession and schools throughout the province are at the leading edge in terms of ICT delivery. This is another progressive step forward which can only add to and further enhance the local education sector."
The new deal equates to over 5,200 workstations and 600 servers, providing 52,000 pupils with state-of-the-art computer equipment, Internet and email access and fast access to the full range of learning materials. It will also include training, technical support, and maintenance. (MB)
