NI tourism awards go ahead without BA
In a break with tradition the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) has announced its decision to “go it alone” by hosting this year’s tourism awards without British Airways.
Traditionally known as the British Airways Tourism Awards, the event is now in its twenty-fourth year and has been a popular grandstand for outstanding contributions from all sections of the tourism industry.
NITB Chief Executive, Alan Clarke said "The annual Tourism Awards are a means of encouraging our industry to strive for continuing excellence. As such, they highlight the very best that Northern Ireland has to offer both domestic and international customers. In light of recent events, we feel the time is right to review the event and not to seek sponsorship for this year’s awards. NITB has had a long and mutually beneficial association with BA over the years for which we are most grateful. Current circumstances, however, necessitate a new approach”.
The Tourism Awards will now take place in March 2002, the date yet to be confirmed. Application forms will be available from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board in early November. (AMcE)

NI urged to enter National Safety Awards scheme
The British Safety Council is inviting businesses and organisations in Northern Ireland to enter its National Safety Awards scheme. Six organisations in Northern Ireland are in line for awards with applications invited from large and small enterprises, and from public and private sectors. Last year more than 1,000 organisations were honoured.
