Farren praises Academy for Irish Cultural Heritages
Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has praised the launch of University of Ulster’s new £3 million, Academy for Irish Cultural Heritages at the Magee campus in Derry.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Farren said: “The Academy has the unique distinction of being the first Irish Cultural Research Centre of its kind in the world. I am delighted that my Department has greatly contributed to its development by providing 50 per cent funding under the Support Programme for University Research (SPUR).
“This visionary development also reflects the commitment to research and development set out in the Northern Ireland Executive’s Programme for Government.
The Academy of Irish Cultural Heritages brings together the University of Ulster’s scholarship and research expertise in History, Celtic Studies and English, and adds an exciting new dimension to the study of Ireland’s rich and diverse cultural heritages across these disciplines. (GB)

Cultural 'Quarters' key to tourism and economic growth
European Cultural Tourism experts gathered in Belfast today to discuss how best to use the city's Cultural Tourism Quarters for tourism and job creation. The seminar, held in the Belfast Harbour Commissioners Office and hosted by Belfast City Council, focused on the development of the Quarters and their potential impact on regeneration of the city.
