Elderly pensioners attacked in their home
An 81-year-old man has been attacked and threatened at knifepoint during a robbery at his home in County Antrim.
The man and his 82-year-old wife, who has a heart condition, were sleeping when the front door of their home at Moss Road in Lambeg was kicked open on Wednesday night.
An intruder punched the man in the face and threatened the couple before escaping with money. The couple’s son who was visiting from Canada tried to tackle the intruders but was unable to stop them from robbing his parents. The police said the elderly couple were in deep shock.
SDLP assembly member for Lagan Valley Patricia Lewsley has condemned the attack. She said: “These thugs kicked their way into the home of an elderly couple and attacked and threatened them at knifepoint before making of with a sum of money. The people that carried out this attack should be ashamed of themselves. They are the lowest of the low. They terrorised this couple before robbing them. If anyone has information about this attack they should talk to the police so that these people can be apprehended as quickly as possible.” (AMcE)
