Man Held As Seaside Shooting Victim Dies
A woman has been fatally injured in a seaside shooting incident.
The PSNI are investigating after the woman was shot at premises near the promenade in the normally quiet town of Portstewart. The victim was initially described as being seriously injured, but has since died.
A man in his 40s has now been detained and is currently being questioned at Antrim Serious Crime Suite about the incident.
The victim, thought to be in her 50s was pronounced dead at the scene soon after the shock shooting took place.
It happened at the launderette she was working in - which is close to the promenade in the scenic Co Londonderry town.
The incident took place at early on Friday afternoon at the premises off Harbour Hill - which are behind a block of apartments.
It is understood a man walked in at around 1.30pm and opened fire on the defenceless victim.
Police are at the scene and the area has been cordoned off as an investigation begins.
Detectives want to hear about the movements of a gold coloured Renault Clio car, registration number CHZ 7771 and want anyone who may have spotted this vehicle in the Portstewart or Kilreagh areas before or after the killing to contact them.
Local Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has expressed his shock at news that a woman has been shot dead in Portstewart.
"The whole town is in a total state of shock. The entire community is devastated at this tragic news, and I am sure I speak for everyone when I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the victim.
"Portstewart is a pictureque and friendly place, and I am deeply shocked at events today.
"Anyone who can help police to catch those involved has a duty to contact the police immediately," he said.

A man was shot in the leg at Creeslough Gardens at around 21:30 on Wednesday night. It is understood that victim is in his 40s and his injuries are not life threatening.

Investigation Launched Following Shooting Incident In Co Fermanagh
Police have launched an investigation following a shooting incident in Co Fermanagh. One shot was fired into a contractor's van who was working at a hotel on Main Street at around 9.30am on Tuesday, 02 August. No injuries were reported, however three men wearing balaclavas were seen fleeing from the scene.

The incident at around 7.40pm on the Springfield Road saw the victim chased by a gunman before being shot a number of times. The suspect made off along Kashmir Road, while the victim was left in critical condition in hospital.
