Minister reappoints electricity and gas regulator

Sir Reg Empey, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, has announced that Douglas McIldoon is to be re-appointed as regulator for the electricity and gas sectors in Northern Ireland.

Sir Reg said that since the inception of the Northern Ireland Executive and his appointment as Minister, he had been highly “impressed” with Mr McIldoon’s performance in an “extremely challenging and demanding position”.

He added: “He has raised the profile of the regulatory system in Northern Ireland and is currently involved in a number of complex and inter-related issues on the electricity and gas fronts.”

The Minister said he was pleased that Mr McIldoon had agreed to continue his work in regulating the electricity and gas sectors.

Sir Reg said that he had every confidence consumers, including industrial, commercial and domestic energy users, would benefit from his continuing commitment to achieving a modern, efficient, low cost and customer focused energy sector. (MB)
