Irish Bank 'Stress Tests' To Be Published
Trading in the Bank of Ireland and AIB has now been suspended for 24 hours.
The move comes ahead of the publication of crucial stress tests today by the government.
The full extent of financial trouble within the banks will be detailed late this afternoon.
The government will take this opportunity to convince the International community, particularly the eurozone, that it can solve the banking crisis. It is believed the Bank of Ireland would need around €5bn, and EBS around €1bn.
The future policy could result in two strong institutions, the AIB and Bank of Ireland - made up of parts of smaller banks.
After the stress test results have been published, the European Commission, and the ECB are expected to issue a formal response.
Anglo Irish Bank Chief Executive Mike Aynsley said the banking system developed 'black holes' which need to be funded. He added the country needed a healthy banking system to ensure a healthy economy.

New NI Bank Notes In Circulation
New bank notes have been released into circulation in Northern Ireland. The £10 and £20 notes are being issued from Danske Bank and will gradually replace the existing Northern Bank notes. The design of the notes remains the same, the only difference is the Danske Bank logo has replaced the Northern Bank logo.

Northern Bank Becomes Danske
Today the Northern Bank officially becomes Danske Bank. The new name comes from the bank’s Danish parent and will see branches across Ireland, Norway, Finland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania adopt the new title.

Dáil Gets Apology Over Bank's Bonuses
The Bank of Ireland has issued an apology over the "quality" of its information on bonuses to the Dublin Government, which the Department of Finance had called "misleading". The apology comes after an investigation by the Department of Finance, published on Friday morning, which found the bank had paid bonuses totalling almost €66.

Bank robbery charges dropped
The County Down man accused of the £26 million Northern Bank robbery in 2004, has had the charges against him dropped. Dominic McEvoy, 23, a builder from Mullandra Park in Kilcoo, was not present in Belfast Magistrates Court during the hearing.
