Express Dairies and Golden Vale have accepted an offer from Dromona Quality Foods, the dairy processor subsidiary of United Dairy Farmers, in the acquisition of shares of Dale Farm Dairies Limited, Northern Ireland’s leading liquid milk processor and distributor.

The deal valued at £18.25 million, includes both the Dale Farm company and its brands and brings together two of the best known and respected names in the local dairy sector. The transaction, which will return Dale Farm to Northern Ireland ownership, is subject to regulatory approval.

Announcing details of the acquisition, David Dobbin, Group Chief Executive of United Dairy Farmers, said: “We are delighted with this deal which is another important step in the implementation of United Dairy Farmers’ strategy of developing its added value consumer foods business.

“It is strong evidence of our commitment to investing in our business in Northern Ireland and positions us to more effectively compete in the local, national and international marketplaces.”

The company will continue to operate as Dale Farm Dairies under the control of its existing management team. (MB)
