Irish Police In Kerr Murder Raid

There has been an overnight raid in Co Monaghan with the Irish police searching property and seizing a number of items as part of the investigation into the murder of PSNI Constable, Ronan Kerr.

Gardai raided a property in Scotstown, on Tuesday evening.

No arrests were made but a number of items were taken away for forensic testing. None of these were said to be munitions.

Earlier this month, the gardai raided the Dublin home of one of two Co Tyrone men - thought to be Sean McKiernan, 40, of Omagh - who was questioned by the PSNI about the terrorist murder of the 25-year-old police constable.

Armed members of the Garda Special Branch also searched an apartment on the northside of Dublin but did not seize anything.

However, Mr McKiernan has now been freed along with Brian Carron, 26, also from the Dungannon area,

He was arrested in Renton, West Dunbartonshire and but both were released on Tuesday, unconditionally

The men were initially being detained in relation to the murder of Constable Kerr - who was killed by a bomb under his car outside his Omagh home on Saturday 2 April. However, a 33-year-old remains in custody.

The original arrests came hours after a weapons was haul found in stolen vehicles in garages on the Mountjoy Road in Coalisland included Kalashnikov rifles, ammunition, timer power units, detonators, incendiary bombs, components for rocket launchers and a quantity of explosives.
