Priests Confess Brit Awards Nomination

NI is looking ever more likely to feature in the coming Brit Awards next month.

The lyrical clergymen, better known as The Priests, have revealed they are among the 10 contenders for the coveted Classic FM 'Album of the Year' Award, which will be bestowed at the Classic Brit Awards in May.

Brothers Martin and Eugene O'Hagan, whose family members still live in Londonderry, and their childhood friend, David Delargy, will find out on May 12 whether or not they have won the accolade - just two days before they are due to headline at the re-opening of First Derry Presbyterian Church - the historic church on Derry's Walls.

The Priests' release Noel, which featured former Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan, has been nominated alongside other contenders that includes Aled Jones and the Benedictine Nuns Of Notre Dame.

Punk icon, MacGowan teamed up with The Priests for a version of Christmas song Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy, on Noel.

At the time, Eugene O'Hagan said the pairing showed "how music builds bridges and brings us into creative contact with unlikely partnerships".

The Priests have already had a number five UK hit with their eponymous debut album in 2008.

It sold 29,000 copies on its first day of release and went on to be named the fastest-selling classical debut of all time by the Guinness Book Of Records.

The awards will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London and the event will be hosted by TV personality and pianist Myleene Klass.
