Woman Held Over Ronan Kerr Murder

There has been a fresh development in the hunt for the killers of PSNI bomb victim, Ronan Kerr, (pictured). A 36-year-old woman has been arrested in Co Tyrone by police investigating the murder of the Catholic officer. The woman was arrested in Pomeroy on Tuesday morning and taken to Antrim Police Station for questioning.

All-Ireland Hunt For Girl

The Irish police - the Gardaí - have issued an appeal on behalf of the PSNI in Newry, Co Down as they are becoming increasingly concerned about the whereabouts of missing teenager, named last night as Sylvia O'Hare. Seventeen-year-old Sylvia was last seen in the area of Monaghan Street in the border city of Newry, around 3pm on Tuesday, 26 April. She is described as having black hair and, when last seen, was wearing a peach coloured cardigan and black bottoms. Police are appealing to Sylvia or anyone who knows of her whereabouts to contact them on 04890 650222

Smoke Clouds Derry Air

The Waterside area of Londonderry had to be evacuated after a house fire last night when heavy smoke affected some nearby properties before the blaze was contained. Police are investigating the cause of the outbreak after fire crews were called to the scene at Mimosa Court shortly before 11pm on Monday. Two people were in the house at the time, but had left safely by the time the fire and rescue service arrived.

Petrol Station On Fire

Part of a busy Co Antrim town was sealed off last night after a fire broke out at a petrol filling station. A 200m-exclusion zone was set up round a garage on the Station Road in Randalstown that was believed to be storing gas cylinders. Police said that up to 100 homes were evacuated after a blaze at the garage.

Robbers Wreck Kelly Car

Sinn Fein MLA Gerry Kelly yesterday walked away unscathed from a car crash after his car was one of five vehicles hit by a gang of robbers in a getaway car in south Belfast. The collision involved a police car and was on the southbound off-slip of the M1 motorway at the Stockman's Lane roundabout shortly before 3pm as a gang of alleged robbers made their escape. Three men were later arrested and a sum of money recovered from the vehicle.

Frauds Fined

A man was convicted at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court this week for claiming benefits he was not entitled to. Gavin Morrison, 37, of Rathfriland Road, Dromara claimed Income Support and Carers Allowance totalling £4,915 while failing to declare employment. He was given 240 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £43. He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency. Meanwhile, two people were convicted at Newtownards Magistrates' Court as well. Frances Hardy, 32, of Derlett Street, Belfast claimed Income Support totalling £15,571 while failing to declare employment. She was given 60 hours community service. Adam Hogg, 26, of Upper Frank Street, Belfast claimed Job Seekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £2,256 while failing to declare employment. He was given 60 hours community service. Both are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Armed Robber Dresses As Police Officer
Police are searching for two men in connection with the attempted armed robbery of a shop in Co Armagh. Police said that one of the men who attempted to rob the shop on West Street, Portadown, was dressed as a policeman. It is understood two men entered the shop at about 10am on Thursday, one of them was carrying a suspected firearm.

Colin Horner Murder: Man Arrested
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Colin Horner. Mr Horner, 35, was fatally shot in front of his young son in a supermarket car park on Sunday, 28 May. The man was arrested in the Newtownards area on Friday, 16 June. He has been taken to Musgrave Police station for questioning.

Police Right To Authorise Damage To Vehicle Blocking Fire Engine
A claim that police failed to make reasonable efforts to avoid having to damage a parked car which was blocking a fire engine on its way to a blaze in Portrush over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend has been rejected by the Police Ombudsman.

Police Officers Disciplined For Speeding At 81mph Through A 30mph Zone
Two police officers have been disciplined after driving at 81mph through a 30mph zone in the village of Claudy in an unmarked police vehicle with no sirens or flashing lights activated, after chasing another car, following a Police Ombudsman investigation.
