Arrest Follows Shock Bangor Shooting
A man has been shot and critically injured in Co Down.
It saw at least one other person also wounded in the shock Bangor incident and came in the same week as the PSNI issued positive figures on a reduction in crime across Northern Ireland.
The PSNI said this afternoon that the shooting happened at a house at Hazelbrook Avenue, in the Clandeboye Road area of the seaside town, just after 12pm on Friday.
The incident is not believed to have involved any attack on members of the security forces.
Meanwhile, a man has been arrested in south Belfast in connection to the attack.
The PSNI helicopter was involved in the operation to stop a silver coloured car, with the police then ordering those inside to keep their hands in sight as they approached the suspects.
Eyewitnesses said that several police cars had surrounded the suspect vehicle in Ormeau Avenue, near the BBC HQ, and that one man was immediately put into a forensic boiler suit.
The police had just released figures on Thursday that showed NI had the lowest crime levels recorded for 13 years.
Chief Constable Matt Baggott paid tribute to the perseverance and determination of the Police Service.
"I am pleased to report that this year, despite the very difficult security environment in which we work, we have seen a decrease in the number of overall crimes recorded as well as an increase in the detection rate," he said.
