RTÉ Wins Technolgy Accolade

The Irish Republic's state broadcaster, RTÉ and Digital Reach Group (DRG) have picked up a prestigious award for Mobile Technology Project of the Year at the ICT Excellence Awards, which were held in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire this week.

RTÉ and DRG won for the RTÉ News Now mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, developed by DRG and which have since been downloaded over a quarter of a million times.

Now in their tenth year, the ICT Excellence Awards are considered the preeminent awards in the information communication technology sector in Ireland and attract 100s of entries each year from companies and organisations across the country.

Design and Production Manager with RTÉ Publishing, Michael Lisovski, said: "We're extremely delighted with this win. This award is a recognition of the vision and hard work of the team at RTÉ Publishing and DRG. It also highlights RTÉ's commitment to addressing the needs of our audience by delivering content on a range of platforms and devices as well as playing a relevant part in the development of mobile media in Ireland."

Digital Reach Group Chief Executive Officer, Colm Grealy, said: "We're delighted to have the opportunity to work closely with RTÉ who are leading the market in mobile media and this is evident in the number of people who use the iPhone, iPad and Android News Now apps every day. Our winning project was really about extending RTÉ News Now from PC to mobile devices, making it a truly multi-platform service, and we're very happy to be part of that success."

The ICT Excellence Awards judging panel was chaired by Dr. Tom McCarthy, Chief Executive of the Irish Management Institute (IMI) and a member of the Advisory Council on Science & Technology, the Council of the Statistical & Social Inquiry Society of Ireland, and the Governing Body of NUI Maynooth.
