St Columb’s College achieves IiP status

St Columb’s College grammar school in Derry has been presented with the prestigious Investor in People Award.

Investors in People is a nationally recognised standard that links an organisation’s training and development activities to its business objectives.

Chairman of the Training and Employment Agency, Mr Bill McGinnis, who presented the award, said: ”I know from personal experience that the Investor in People journey is by no means easy. It is challenging for all involved, and recognition against the IiP national Standard makes a clear and public statement about the value St Columb’s College places on its most important asset – its people.”

Mr McGinnis added: “Embedding IiP into the ethos of your college will facilitate a process of continuous improvement, which will offer your people the opportunity to acquire and develop skills, which will help them realise their full potential.

The College was also praised for its ability to meet the challenges of managing ‘change, flexibility and adaptability’ and for raising awareness that the responsibility for meeting such challenges lies not just with employers but also with each and every individual.

Mr McGinnis added: “The College’s foresight in deciding to go down the IiP route and its commitment to the Standard’s principles provides ample evidence that this is an organisation that fully respects and values its people”. (AMcE)
