Cable Criticised Over Tougher Strike Laws

Trade union activists have heckled the Business Secretary over warnings of tougher laws on strikes.

Vince Cable is supporting the move where workers are seen to damage the economy with industrial action.

While speaking to the annual conference of the GMB union in Brighton, Mr Cable was interrupted several times by delegates opposing the move.

One banner, held up as he spoke, read: "Vince Cable not welcome - Stop Attacking Workers' Rights."

Discussing persisitant co-ordinated strike action, Mr Cable warned: "the pressure on us to act will ratchet up.

"If we go into a cycle of destructive strikes, we would have to think again."

A spokesman for Prime Minister David Cameron's said there were no proposals to change the law on the right to strike, but made clear that ministers were ready to review the position if there was a wave of "irresponsible" disputes.
