Enniskillen service pays tribute to US victims
A remembrance service has been held in Enniskillen to pay tribute to those who died in last Tuesday’s terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
The event, held in the Bill Clinton Peace Centre, saw representatives from the emergency services meet with those from the province’s four main churches and follows a similar number of events that have been held throughout Northern Ireland during the past week.
On Monday night, a service at St Eugene’s Cathedral in Derry saw hundreds of people attending a special Mass for the victims who died in the atrocities. Frances Lagan, Auxiliary Bishop of Derry, praised the work of the emergency services and called on those present to express their sympathy through the solidarity of prayer.
Ulster Unionist MP, Jeffrey Donaldson, has also spoken of his personal reaction to events, having been stranded in Canada following the emergency diversion of his flight which had originally been en route to Washington. He described the mood of his fellow American travellers as sad, yet angry, and as being “fearful of the consequences for their country and for them as individuals”. (CL)

Air Ambulance Service In NI Launches
A new air ambulance service is to become fully operational today, 02 August. The service will be based at the former Maze prison site near Lisburn and will be able to reach any part of NI within 25 minutes.

MLAs Warned On Funding Crisis For Fire Service
It has been claimed that some 26 of Northern Ireland's fire stations are no longer "fit for purpose" – and that the 999 system is close to overload. The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has warned that while something like £15m is actually needed annually to maintain standards, they are only scheduled to get £4m.

SDLP Condemns Decision To Close 10 NI Tax Offices
The SDLP has condemned the decision to close 10 tax offices in Northern Ireland. Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) plans to operate from one single facility in Belfast. Newry, Coleraine, Craigavon, Enniskillen, Lisburn and L'Derry will close between 2016 and 2021.
