Ulster companies forge links with Russia
Companies in Northern Ireland are set to provide practical help to young Russian managers whose companies are facing the task of rebuilding business after the Russian economic crisis.
Thirteen Russian managers will arrive in Northern Ireland this weekend to take part in the Russian President’s Management Training Initiative (RPMTI).
The programme works to build commercial links between companies in the UK and Russia in equipping the participants with new management skills to help them make positive changes to the way their companies are run.
The participants will spend two weeks on a practical work attachment in companies throughout Northern Ireland. The companies taking part include Flagship Media Group, the BBC, Belfast Citybeat, British Telecom, Downtown Radio, Eircom (NI), FOIS Group, The Housing Executive (NI), Lagan Group Holdings, Sangers Pharmaceuticals (NI) and Straightforward Film & Television Productions.
The programme is training 540 managers in the UK over a period of three years and was initiated in response to President Yeltsin’s appeal to the G7 countries in 1997 to train 5,000 Russians in forming a corps of young managers for the 21st Century.
The scheme is being funded by the Department of International Development’s Know How Fund and managed by the British Council. (MB)

Work Underway For Free Hospital Parking In Northern Ireland
Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.
