Hit-Tech Banking

An innovative mobile banking app, launched by Northern Bank is now available to download free of charge for iPhone, Android or any other phone with internet access. It will make it easy and convenient for new and existing Northern Bank customers to perform much of their day-to-day banking at home or on the move. Northern Bank Chief Executive Gerry Mallon said the launch of the app is in response to increasing demand for banking services to fit in with customers' lifestyles: "Banking in Northern Ireland is evolving, as are customer expectations of what a modern and innovative bank should deliver. We are making it straightforward for them to manage their finances by continually updating and enhancing the options available to them and this includes the integration of new, ground-breaking technologies," he said.

RIR Bomb Victim Inspires Cadets

A Northern Ireland soldier who lost his legs and was blinded in Afghanistan has proved an inspiration to Army cadets, who took to the streets for a charity 'bed-push'. Cadets from the Glengormley Detachment and their instructors undertook the challenge to raise funds for St Dunstan's, the charity that provides training and rehabilitation to blind ex-Servicemen and women. They were moved to act after Royal Irish Ranger Andy Allen was caught by a makeshift bomb detonated remotely by the Taliban. His slow, painful road to recovery was charted in a television documentary in which Andy shared his experiences with millions of viewers. As a result, 10 cadets, accompanied by three instructors, stepped out on a 13-mile sponsored bed push between Newtownabbey and Carrick Castle, organised by Lieutenant John Read from Glengormley Army Cadet Force. He said that over £1,100 had been raised so far for the worthy cause.

Fountain Of Funds

Adam Newton, a DUP Councillor for East Belfast's Pottinger Area has said it is pleasing that the refurbishment of the Belfast City Hall has meant benefits to local charities. "Visitors to the City Hall are throwing coins into the fountain and the collection is given to charity. This fountain feature replaces a small circular flower display. The most recent donation was £144.2," he said, adding: "The refurbishment of the City Hall cost millions but this unplanned aspect of the fountain will benefit charities on an annual basis for years to come."
