Illicit Fermanagh Fuel Operation Targeted
Nearly three thousand litres of suspected illegal fuel were seized at a filling station in Co Fermanagh by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers today.
HMRC accompanied by the PSNI visited the retail site in Enniskillen where customs officers tested samples of the fuel from the diesel pumps.
An adapted lorry was seized along with 2,800 litres of illicit fuel as part of the operation.
Two men were arrested by HMRC and investigations are continuing.
Graeme Anderson, Assistant Director, Specialist Investigation, HMRC, said: "Selling illicit fuel seriously undercuts legitimate traders who should be able to operate without the threat of unfair competition.
"The production of illicit fuel can cause considerable damage to the environment and there is also potential for serious damage to vehicle engines.
"The vehicles used for the transport of illicit fuel are unsafe, and the dangers they pose to anyone in the vicinity show a total disregard for public safety.
"Anyone with information on fuel misuse or suspicious activities can contact the Customs' hotline on 0800 59 5000," he said.
This is only the latest of several such seizures to be made, with a large-scale cross-border operation taking place last weekend.

Gas Price Hike 'Fuels Winter Woes'
The gas supplier, Firmus Energy has ended its previously announced summer price freeze and is set to increase tariffs by over 35% from 1 October - fuelling fears over 'fuel poverty' among the most needy. It has around 8,500 customers in the greater Belfast area - compared to competitor, Phoenix Gas - that has more than 130,000.
