Young's Bluecrest in possible £150m sale

Young's Bluecrest, the name behind Harry Ramsden's Chip Shop branded battered fish products, may be destined to change hands after a major shareholder confirmed it was reviewing its plans.

The UK's biggest fish products group could be put up for sale in a deal worth up to £150 million as private equity group Legal & General Ventures (LGV), which owns a 79 per cent stake in the company, plans to either sell the business or look for further growth by taking over other fish-related companies.

The Grimsby-based firm, which employs a total of 3,000 people across the UK, including a site at Kilkeel in Northern Ireland, will decide on the future of its stake inside the next month.

Analysts believe LGV has done well from its investment so far, with share values rising from 100p at the time of the merger to up to 900p.

Though a sale of the company to a UK buyer is believed to be unlikely, there is speculation that there could be interest from a multi-national fish specialist. (MB)
