Job Losses for Cookstown But Opportunities for Coalisland
A total of 12 new jobs are in the pipeline at a Coalisland recycling facility which has just embarked on mattress recycling.
Envirogreen at Western Business Park, handles a wide range of recyclable materials, buying baled cardboard, plastic, metal and mattresses.
The 12 new jobs will be created in the coming year.
Meanwhile Cookstown is facing a major jobs blow.
It was announced on Friday last that around 30 jobs will go at the former Quinn's bottling plant in the town, with immediate effect.
The plant, at Sandholes Road, was acquired by Britvic in July 2011. However, the company has now decided to close its Cookstown depot and transfer the facility to its Belfast facility.
In a statement to the Tyrone Courier on Friday afternoon, a spokesperson for Britvic said: "Britvic Northern Ireland confirmed it has commenced a consultation process with staff of Quinn's of Cookstown, which was acquired by Britvic in July 2011.
"The consultation follows a business integration review which has recommended closure of the Cookstown depot - which is in need of upgrading - and the transfer of all logistics to Britvic's Castlereagh facility."
The company statement continued: "The staff consultation process is expected to focus, in particular, on redeployment opportunities within Britvic, but we acknowledge that roles are at risk. It would be inappropriate to comment further pending completion of consultation with staff."
