Poots Offers Condolences At Death Of Couple

Health Minister Edwin Poots has expressed his sadness at the death of the couple near Ravernet at the weekend.

The bodies of Phyllis and Cyril Gardner, in their 50s, were found in their car at a field on Green Road near the village on Sunday.

Mr Poots said: "This a terrible tragedy which has left their community reeling.

"Like many people in the Hillsborough area, my family and I knew Mr and Mrs Gardner and news of their deaths has saddened us deeply. I want to offer my condolences to their two daughters and to their extended family who are no doubt grieving at this time.

"It is an awful loss, however, I know the local community will want to offer its support to Mr and Mrs Gardners' family at this difficult time."

Boy Killed In Belfast Road Accident
A five-year-old boy has died in a road accident in north Belfast. It has been reported that the boy was riding his bike in the Rosehead area of Ardoyne on Wednesday morning at about 09:00 when he was struck by a car. The child was taken to a nearby hospital, but died as a result of his injuries.

Over 500 Attend Farm First Aid Awareness Training
More than 500 farm family members and employees have attended First Aid Awareness training since March 2018, as part of the Farm Family Key Skills (FFKS) scheme. Up to 100 accidents which need medical attention occur each month on Northern Ireland farms.
