China In Focus

The Stormont Junior Ministers Jonathan Bell and Martina Anderson have joined with the Chinese Consul General Li Ruiyou in celebrating the official opening of the Chinese Welfare Association's new building on Stranmillis Embankment, Belfast. After the traditional Lion Dance of welcome the Ministers praised the work of the association and the wider Chinese community here, and underlined their office's continued support. This afternoon, the Chinese Consul-General from Edinburgh is also in the spotlight as the guest of the University of Ulster's Vice Chancellor, Richard Barnett, to mark the university's link-up with China in securing the Confucius Institute for NI which is being located at the Faculty of Arts.

Mex Food Challenge

Belfast City Council has teamed up with Belfast Metropolitan College, Queen's University , the University of Ulster, St Mary's College and Stranmillis College to offer teams of budding entrepreneurs the opportunity to run a busy restaurant for a day. The 'Mex-imum Business Challenge' will give students the chance to take on, for one day, all aspects of managing and operating the Mexican eatery Boojum in Botanic Avenue. They will be tasked with creating a marketing campaign for a new breakfast burrito and other breakfast items for the restaurant. Entries for the competition close on Friday 4 November. Teams can be made up of up to four members, but all members must be students and live in the Belfast City Council area.

Blue Zinc Excels

Belfast software company Blue Zinc IT Ltd is investing over £675,000 to expand its operation with support from Invest Northern Ireland. The company, which currently employs 21, specialises in practice management software for private medical clinics, hospitals and businesses. Invest NI has offered £97,500 to support the creation of 13 new jobs over the next three years in sales, software development and support. This will help Blue Zinc IT to accelerate growth in export markets, particularly in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and Australia, and to capitalise on opportunities identified in a recent strategic planning exercise.

Appeal Issued For Missing Chinese Woman
Police are appealing for information to help trace a missing Chinese woman. Chutai Huang, aged 40, was last seen in the Ballymena area on 28 September. She speaks very little English and usually carries a backpack. She is believed to have travelled to either Belfast or Newry. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
