First Trust Bank announces £10m investment in branch network

The First Trust Bank has announced a £10 million investment in its branch network over the next three years, including a £3 million super branch in Belfast.

The investment will involve a major building and refurbishment programme across First Trust’s network and includes a new state-of-the-art branch at High Street.

The bank, which has 70 branches across Northern Ireland and employs a total of 1,700 people, is investing £2 million in a project combining two branches in Omagh, is to open a new branch at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, and is to refurbish the Stormont branch.

Kieran Bennett, First Trust’s Head of Retail Banking, said that while some banks had engaged in a process of rationalisation and closing branches, First Trust remained “committed to strengthening its branch network”.

The First Trust Bank has also recently recruited 100 members of staff across its network, bringing the number of employees in Northern Ireland to almost 1,500. (CD)
