Alan Brings Spexy Back To Odyssey
Britain's best loved chatty man is back in town as part of his new 33 date arena tour 'Spexy Beast', writes Brenda McNeill.
After a few years rubbing shoulders with A-list celebrities, on his Channel 4 chat show, multi award-winning Alan Carr (pictured) was back to his stand-up roots in his first major live comedy tour in four years.
And the Tooth-fairy himself needn't have wished for a warmer reception. A heater, on the other hand, would have been handy in the cold Odyssey arena as he exclaimed he could cut glass with his 'man nipples'. But Alan soon broke a sweat when the physical comedy kicked off and Belfast's belly laughs began.
Alan jokingly laid down the law from the get go, announcing that the Q&A section of the show had been discontinued as things had got too personal. He said that being asked if he was "a train or a tunnel" was just too much for him.
The audience happily lapped up Carr's camp and loveable delivery, combined with his trade mark self deprecating humour. It was no time at all before the mascara and manscara began running through sympathy and empathy for our man.
Only Carr could raise the roof discussing the misfortune of being mistaken for an old lady and naming his love child with Gok Wan, Wan-Carr - how unlucky.
With natural onstage charisma, Carr's brand of camp comedy and observational innuendo has certainly earned him his stripes in British comedy and, as he bragged, a place in Madame Tussauds ...Blackpool.
Alan played his final Belfast date on the Spexy Beast tour last night at the Odyssey Arena.
Chatty Man returns for a fifth series with ten brand new episodes this December. The first episode airs at 10pm on Channel 4 on Monday 13 December with guests David Hasselhoff, Colin Farrell, the cast of the Inbetweeners plus music by Cee Lo Green.
