GCSE pupils to receive correct exam result
Almost 1,000 GCSE Home Economics pupils in Northern Ireland face a change in their results after receiving the wrong grades.
On Tuesday August 21 the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) admitted the error and apologised saying that a full investigation was underway.
Pupils were expected to receive their correct result by lunchtime on Wednesday.
SDLP Education spokesperson Patricia Lewsley said the error should never have happened in the first place, she added: “As a member of the Education Committee at Stormont I will be rigorously pursuing this terrible error which has caused such worry and upset for so many pupils.
“I am calling on the Minister for Education, Martin McGuinness, to take this issue seriously and initiate an inquiry into this mistake. The results of that enquiry should then be made public so that an error of this scale cannot happen again. Many of the children affected by this mistake will see the mark they believed they had drop by two grades, causing real distress to them and their families. The Minister must demonstrate that he is in charge of his department, and that he won’t allow mistakes like this to happen again.”
The CCEA said the investigation would take in 24 members of staff. (CD)
