Fire Service Gets 'Quietest Halloween'
During Halloween, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) received 197 calls and attended 145 incidents across Northern Ireland – its quietist since 1989.
It is the lowest figure recorded for October 31 since 1989 and represents a decrease of 35% on incidents attended during Halloween 2010.
A NIFRS spokesman said the majority of the incidents this year were located in the Southern Command Area (41%) with most involving rubbish, bonfires and also a number of calls where tyres were alight in the roadway.
However, Fire Crews were attacked during three isolated incidents, mostly from youths throwing stones.
"Thankfully there were no injuries to NIFRS personnel although slight damage was sustained to an appliance at one of these occurrences," the spokesman said.
Fire crews responding to an emergency call in Kilkeel, County Down, on Monday were attacked by youths throwing stones. No one was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, in Downpatrick, a female ambulance crew member was assaulted as she tried to help a woman who had suffered burns after falling into a bonfire.

NIFRS Record 40% Drop In Bonfire Incidents

Figures released pertaining to callouts on Thursday 11 July, as the loyalist community celebrated by lighting pyres across the country, show a 40% fall in incidents when compared with 2018.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.

Appeal Following Arson Attack In L'Derry
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information following a serious arson attack in the Clon Dara area of L'Derry on Saturday, 23 November. Shortly before 8.20pm, police received a report that an accelerant had been used to ignite the front door and letterbox of a house in the area.
