English Diet Could Save 4,000 Lives
New research has revealed that if people in Northern Ireland adopted an English diet it could save up to 4,000 lives every year.
Oxford University experts carrying out the study say that people in England have a healthier lifestyle and they eat more fresh fruit and vegetables while having a lower salt and fat intake.
In comparison official figures reveal death rates for heart disease and cancer are higher in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland than in England.
Considering a direct correlation with diet the experts believe a tax on fatty and salty foods and subsidies on fruit and vegetables could help close the diet divide.
The British Heart Foundation says the study shows inequalities in the nations that must be addressed by authorities.

Work Underway For Free Hospital Parking In Northern Ireland
Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.
