Talks Held Over NI Water 'Resignation'

The board of Northern Ireland Water has held crunch talks as it tries to persuade interim Chief Executive Trevor Haslett not to leave his post.

An official NIW statement said: "NI Water Chairman Sean Hogan confirmed that the Board met this morning (Thursday) to discuss the situation in regard to the Chief Executive's post currently filled on an interim basis by Trevor Haslett.

"Discussions have not yet been concluded," the statement added, however, Mr Hogan confirmed that neither he nor the NI Water Board have received any letter of resignation from Mr Haslett.

Mr Haslett wants a two-year deal with an increase in salary from £130,000 to £150,000, but that isn't up to NIW entirely as the NI Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy would have to approve a deal - which he has so far refused to do.

The new man is a trouble-shooter having replaced previous boss Laurence MacKenzie who resigned in January following last year's water crisis.

Mr McKenzie is understood to have been paid around £250,000 a year while Mr Haslett's current package is about £130,000.
