Local businesswoman achieves first for the province
Local businesswoman Maria Clarke has become the first woman from Northern Ireland to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
While this a first for the province, it is also an impressive personal achievement, as only thirteen other women from across the world have ever reached this standard.
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is the voice of the building professional and has over 40,000 members with a Fellowship being the highest grade of membership. To achieve Fellowship you must have held a professional high-level position with significant responsibility for a minimum of five years. You must also have demonstrated high leadership qualities, have significant theoretical knowledge of construction and have made a significant contribution to building outside your own firm.
Ms Clarke’s training towards Fellowship took place at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). Chief Executive of the CITB, Allan McMullen, congratulated Maria’s achievement and said: “By becoming a Fellow of the Institute Maria has shown that she has reached the highest level of competence, experience and ability in the building industry.”
Ms Clarke, who has been involved in construction for the last 26 years, added that she hoped that her new achievement will encourage other women into non-traditional roles, especially within the construction sector. (CL)
