Garda launch murder inquiry in Waterford
The Garda Síochána have launched a murder investigation after a man originally from Northern Ireland was stabbed in the Irish Republic.
The man, who has been named as Thomas McAuley aged 44 from Ardoyne in Belfast, died after being stabbed in Waterford city on Monday night. It is thought he had been living in the city for some time.
The stabbing happened at about 8pm after a dispute between two males, on Manor Street, which is part of the main Waterford to Cork road. Garda Inspector Tom Duggan said the man was pronounced dead on arrival at nearby hospital, Waterford General.
A man has been arrested and is being questioned by Irish police authorities under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. The man who it is believed to be of Eastern European descent can be held until 4pm on Tuesday before either being released or charged. The man’s family is to formally identify the body on Tuesday evening and a post mortem will be carried out. (AMcE)

Man Arrested In Connection With Dromara Assault
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
