Two Die In Weekend Car Crashes

A young Co Antrim woman has died after a tragic car accident at the weekend - and a woman from Banbridge has also now died in hospital after a separate accident.

The 20-year-old female - who was later named as Ammie Rea from Ballyclare - was killed following a serious one-vehicle road traffic collision on the Ballymena Road, Doagh on Sunday.

The PSNI said that she was a passenger in the car. The driver, a 22-year-old male, has been taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

The victim has been reported as being a member of staff at a local Asda store, in Ballyclare.

The Belfast News Letter has since reported that a DUP MLA for the area, Paul Girvan, knew the victim: "She was a year below my daughter at Ballyclare Secondary School. It is just a real tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time," he said.

The police have since appealed to anyone who was on the Ballymena Road, Doagh between 9.15am and 9.45am on this date or anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman has now died in hospital after being injured in an accident in Portadown at the weekend.

She was named as Angela McGarey, who was from the Banbridge area, and was driving one of two cars which collided on the Seagoe Road at about 10am on Saturday.

She died of her injuries late on Sunday night.
