Ardoyne Rioter Jailed

The last of the defendants to appear before the Crown Court in connection with the Ardoyne riots in July 2010 has been sentenced to four years in prison.

However 29-year-old Howard Booth, from the Cliftonville Road in North Belfast is to serve only 12months of the four-year sentence because of mental health issues.

The Belfast man who was found guilty of throwing a petrol bomb during the riots will spend three years on licence following his release as medical reports indicated any lengthy prison term could worsen his condition.

Twenty- six people were arrested following hours of rioting between police and hundreds of people at Ardoyne shop fronts. Booth is the last of the defendants to appear before the crown court.
