Police Investigate Co. Antrim Arson Attack
Police are investigating an arson attack on commercial premises in Ballyclare.
A fire at Clare Farm Supplies in the Park Street area of the town was reported in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene and they extinguished the blaze. There was no one in the building when the fire was started however the premises have been badly damaged.
Due to high winds it is understood it was a difficult operation to put the fire out and the closeness to a car showroom was also cause for concern.
Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kinahan has praised the response of the emergency services.
Mr Kinahan said:"Forty firefighters were involved in tackling a blaze at Clare Farm Supplies and managed to prevent the fire spreading to adjoining properties. Bearing in mind how bad the weather was last night, in particular the presence of very high winds, I would like to place on record my appreciation of the work of the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, and indeed our other emergency services, who so often take risks to protect the rest of us.
"I have visited the scene and spoken to the owner of the business. He is in remarkably good heart and relieved that there was no loss of life. He is also determined to rebuild his business and re-open as soon as possible and I know that this news will be welcomed by the many farm businesses in Ballyclare and much further afield who rely on it."
The police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

MLA Welcomes Attitude Change Towards Farm Safety
Ulster Unionist MLA and the party's agriculture spokesperson Jo-Anne Dobson has said attitudes towards farm safety are changing. The Upper Bann MLA added that she welcomed the "sea change" in attitudes following a recent meeting with senior Fire Service officials.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.
