40% Of Children Have Weight Worries

A recent survey has revealed that over 40% of children under ten are concerned about their weight.

Weight issues were calculated in the poll of 1,500 young people aged between seven and eighteen. Of those aged 11-13, 34% are unhappy with their weight and 45% have been on a diet. 44% have been a victim of bullying.

26% have skipped a meal in an attempt to lose weight, while 28% have been victims of bullying because of their size.

A "diet obsessed society" has been blamed for these statistics, with 51% feeling pressurised by expectations. More than half of girls said they want to be size 10 or smaller when they are older.

The survey was carried out by Onepoll and Youngpoll for the programme Dying to be Thin on ITV1, which will air tonight at 7.30pm.
