Police investigate County Antrim pipe bomb attacks

Police in Northern Ireland are investigating three overnight pipe bomb attacks on houses in County Antrim.

The first incident happened in Newtownabbey when a stone, followed by a bomb, was thrown into the bedroom of a house in Abbeyville Park around 11.30pm on Sunday 29 July. It exploded causing severe damage to the room, and the couple in the house escaped injury but suffered shock.

The second incident took place in north Belfast where army bomb experts defused a device found at the back of a house in Manor Close around 1am on Monday 30 July. The device did not explode and was taken away for examination.

In Larne, a third pipe bomb device exploded in the garden of a house in Loran Crescent around 2am on Monday morning.

Damage was caused to the kitchen window and people residing in the house were treated for shock. (AMcE)

Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

'Viable Pipe Bomb Type Device' In L'Derry Security Alert
Police have declared a security alert in Londonderry was the result of a "viable pipe bomb type device". The alert began with reports of a "loud bang" outside a house in Bann Drive at about 11.15pm on Tuesday, 17 July. It is understood that a man and woman were in the house at the time of the incident but escaped uninjured.

Viable Pipe Bomb Device Found In Newtownabbey
A viable pipe bomb device has been found under a bridge following a security alert in Newtownabbey. The device was discovered at Whitehouse Park at approximately 8.50pm on Saturday. A number of homes were evacuated while the device was examined. All residents returned to their homes at around 1pm on Sunday.

Flats damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks
A number of flats have been damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks in Co Antrim. In the first incident devices were thrown at the front doors of two flats in Rathcoole Drive, Newtownabbey just after 10pm. A short time later another device exploded at a ground floor flat in Carnbrook Drive, Antrim, causing damage to a bedroom.

Viable Pipe Bomb Found In North Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
