Ballymena Pensioner Rapist Given Life Term
A Ballymena man has been given a life sentence after being found guilty of raping a 75-year-old woman in August 2010.
Twenty-six year old Barry Johnston attacked the pensioner only three days after being released from jail.
According to the BBC Johnston was in jail for breaching a sex offenders order in relation to the previous rape of his aunt who has since died.
It is understood that Johnston must serve a minimum of ten years before he can be considered for parole.
Johnston attacked the pensioner in her own home in the early hours of the morning in August 2010.
After raping her Johnston ordered the woman to get dressed and told her never to report it to the police.
The victim however confided in a neighbour and police were called. They later discovered Johnston’s DNA profile from the victim and from bed linen.
