Diageo Investment At St James' Gate Welcomed
Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Central, Catherine Byrne, has welcomed the announcement from Diageo that it is to make a capital investment of €153 million in a brewing centre of excellence at St James's Gate, Dublin.
"It's great news for the South Inner City that Diageo has decided to expand its Guinness brewery through the investment of €153 million. Not only is it a great vote of confidence in the area, it will also bring much needed employment; subject to planning permission construction will begin later this year, creating 300 construction jobs.
"The plans for St James's Gate over the next 2 years will form an important part of the strategy to secure the long term competitiveness of Diageo's beer business. The plans will concentrate all brewing activity on the St James's Gate site, underpinning the company’s commitment to Ireland.
"Diageo is a major employer in the constituency of Dublin South Central and the continued presence of the St James’ Brewery in the South Inner City will have a positive knock on effect for jobs and small business in the area. This is most welcome news for the communities and businesses in the area."
