Arrest Made In Connection With Carjackings
An arrest has been made in connection with the recent spate of car hijackings in Belfast.
A 19-year-old has been detained and is current helping police with their investigations.
This arrest follows 12 carjackings in the Belfast area in the past two weeks.
Yesterday the PSNI announced that a special task-force had been set up to crack down on the upsurge of incidents, which officers insist are not linked.
Earlier in the week Deputy Chief Constable Judith Gillespie said: "I do not underestimate the impact of these incidents on those people involved, but it is important to highlight that despite these recently reported carjackings, the likelihood of becoming a victim of this type of crime is slim.
"We have increased our resources in the city centre and have implemented a comprehensive pro-active police operation to prevent these crimes taking place, investigate, detect and arrest those responsible and put them before the courts."
