Man Given 10 Year Jail Sentence For Wife Murder

A County Armagh man has been jailed for ten years today for killing his wife. Christopher Harper, 45, was convicted in December 2011 for the murder of his 40-year-old wife, Suzanne, at their family home in a quiet cul-de-sac off Portadown's Brownstown Road. Suzanne was found stabbed to death in the bedroom of the home they shared. Harper admitted to stabbing his wife once in the neck but denied the murder. He has been sentenced to a minimum of 10 years imprisonment.

Two Historic Cannons Found At Former Army Site

Two huge cannons from a historic Donegal naval base have been found buried at a former Londonderry military barracks. They were uncovered during an excavation of at the former Ebrington Barracks, which will open in February as Derry’s second major outdoor arena. The cannon are believed to pre-date partition in Ireland and would have been used by the Army at Fort Dunree near Buncrana as a coastal defence.

Additional Funding For Roads And Transport Welcomed

The Regional Development Minister has welcomed the additional £10 million funding for roads and transport in the Executive's January Monitoring round. Danny Kennedy said: "I welcome the additional allocations of £7 million for roads and £3m for transport. This will allow us to take forward additional capital investment and maintenance of the road network and support the purchase of new buses by Translink. "The roads additional funding means maintenance on the roads network will be at a record high. The funding will allow us to provide new drainage, localised reconstruction and to resurface in excess of 25km’s of carriageway. The majority of which will be targeted towards the local road network. Investment in road maintenance will be a welcome boost to the construction industry and facilitate economic growth, which is key to our future competitiveness."

64 Jobs Announced For Sainsbury's Upgrade
64 jobs are to be created at a Sainsbury's supermarket in L'Derry as a result of a multi-million pound upgrade and new online delivery service. The move will bring the total number employed at the Strand Road store to 300.

£95k Roads Resurfacing Scheme For Antrim
Roads Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of a resurfacing scheme for the A57 Dublin Road in Antrim. The scheme will cost a total of £95,000. Work started on the project yesterday (Monday 24 June) and will continue for 12 days between Belmont Road and Kirbys Lane.
