All-Ireland Fleadh Decision Due

A decision is due over the weekend as to the location of the 2013 All-Ireland Fleadh.

The decision will be revealed in Dublin on Saturday when members of the 31-strong central executive of Comhaltas cast their vote.

In the running are Londonderry, Sligo and Ennis. The event is claimed to attract up to 300,000 visitors and is worth 40 million euros to the host venue.

The decision comes as NI executive members said they would not support Derry’s bid due to the threat of dissident attacks, however, this was later overturned leaving the city still in with a chance.

If Derry were chosen the fleadh would coincide with its year as UK City of Culture.
