INI programme continues on course
Work is continuing in the development of the new economic agency which will amalgamate the work of the Industrial Development Board (IDB), Industrial Research and Technology Unit (IRTU) and LEDU.
Announced by Sir Reg Empey, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Invest Northern Ireland (INI) is being set up in response to the overwhelming weight of opinion that the time is now right for a more efficient delivery of economic development services.
The new agency is expected to have the necessary resources and influence to make a significant difference to the local economy.
With work currently underway to appoint a Chief Executive Designate, and a Shadow Chairman and seven Shadow Board members, the agency is expected to be up and running early next year.
As a Non Departmental Public Body, it will have its own Board with executive powers that it will enable it to employ key specialists with speed and flexibility.
The creation of jobs and wealth, as well as the promotion and encouragement of innovation and entrepreneurship in the economy, will be central to its focus. (MB)

Empey welcomes the launch of 'Irish Linen plus Lycra'
The Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, Sir Reg Empey has welcomed the launch of a new Northern Ireland made product which combine the traditional linen with the flexibility of lycra at the world’s biggest exhibition for weavers of apparel and furnishing fabrics. The fabric was launched at the recent Premiere Vision weaving show in Paris.
