DERRY AND CAVAN SET FOR ALL IRELAND CRUNCH QUALIFIER

DERRY and Cavan are to go head-to-head this weekend for a place in the All Ireland football quarter-finals.

The game will be the fifth Ulster derby of the newly-introduced qualifying series which allows teams beaten in their provincial championships another chance at the All Ireland title.

This week’s other games will include Mayo v Westmeath, Galway v Cork and

Sligo v Dublin.

In team news, Derry vice captain, Dermot Dougan looks set to reclaim his place after recovering from a hamstring injury and will play in the half-forward line.

Derry manager Eamon Coleman, who has one place left in this position, looks set to favour Paul McFlynn in the role. McFlynn has also been troubled recently by a hamstring problem and had to miss Derry's previous qualifier against Laois, however he has been reported fit for Sunday's crunch game at Clones.

Meanwhile, Cavan manager Val Andrews has left two places unfilled with half-forward John Tierney and midfield man Barry McCrudden both struggling with injuries after recent club games. (MB)
