HEALTH CHIEFS IN NEW CASH CONTROVERSY

CASH strapped Newry and Mourne hospital trust has admitted its services are likely to suffer in the struggle for extra money to improve security.

The revelation came as the area’s Daisy Hill Hospital comes to terms with the latest violent attack on staff. Workers took their grievances to health minister Bairbre de Brun when she visited the hospital on Tuesday.

However, despite the supposed lack of financial aid for security measures it is believed that the NHS could be facing a bill of up to £500,000 after senior managers successfully challenged a freeze on bonuses.

The ruling, which is likely to cause further controversy over health chiefs’ pay, means health chiefs could receive a cash boost dated as far back as three years ago.

Representatives who met with Ms de Brun said this latest scandal was a “kick in the teeth” to staff that were trying to live within cash restraints. (MB)
