CASTLEROCK’S NUTT SECURES CHAMPIONS DOUBLE

CASTLEROCK’S Marty Nutt created a stir during Monday’s nights Champion of Champions short circuit contest at Kirkistown securing two victories in separate cc classes.

In the opening 1000cc superbike race, Nutt secured victory thanks to some excellent riding and a powerful Suzuki provided by Coleraine businessman Mitchell Smith. However, he came under pressure throughout the race from Honda’s Adrian Archibald.

In the second of the 600cc races, Nutt finished ahead of Richard Britton and Archibald, thus gaining revenge for the earlier opening race when he finished a disappointing third behind the same two men.

Jeremy McWilliams, meanwhile, has declared himself fit for Sunday's German 250cc Grand Prix, despite breaking his collarbone in a crash at Donington last week.

McWilliams, who attended Tuesday’s Kirkistown contest, said he needs to race in Germany to avoid slipping down the world championship standings. He is currently eighth in the championship table. (MB)
