Plans For £3m Strabane Footbridge Shelved
Plans to build a £3m footbridge in Strabane have been postponed because the council could not find a contractor in time.
Meanwhile Cycle charity Sustrans has withdrawn their £650K contribution for the bridge as their agreement was that they would help fund the structure if it was built by March 2013.
The footbridge was set to span more than 70 meters across the River Mourne but Strabane District Council ran into problems when they could not secure a contractor’s tender that promised to build the bridge to a £3m budget.
The two tenders to build the bridge received by the council were in the region of £4.5m.
The remainder of the money for the bridge, £2.2m, had been agreed by the Department for Regional Development, and it is thought this money is still available.

Third Bridge Over Foyle Confirmed
Plans for a third bridge across Londonderry's River Foyle have been described as another positive dimension to creating a 'shared city'. Regeneration Minister Margaret Ritchie confirmed details of the footbridge scheme in a letter to SDLP party colleague, and Foyle MP, Mark Durkan, (pictured).

Graham To Build Lagan Weir Bridge
Graham Construction has been appointed to construct the new cycle and pedestrian footbridge in Belfast. The £5m project will see the bridge built at the Lagan Weir in the city. It is part of a wider regeneration scheme for the area which will see a number of public realm improvements made along the waterfront.
