CHIEF CONSTABLE CONDEMNS RIOTING
RUC CHIEF CONSTABLE Sir Ronnie Flanagan has condemned those behind nationalist rioting which flared in the Ardoyne area on Thursday night, which saw a petrol station destroyed and more than 100 officers injured.
Disturbances began when police attempted to remove nationalist protestors from blocking the route of parade of Orangemen who were returning from Edenderry following the traditional 12 July gathering.
Nationalists have criticised the police over their handling of the situation, with SDLP councillor Martin Morgan describing the manner in which officers dealt with the protesters as “heavy and provocative”.
Sinn Fein assembly member for north Belfast, Gerry Kelly, who was present at the event described the protest as ‘peaceful’ but DUP MP Nigel Dodds accused the nationalist community of orchestrating an evening of “planned violence” against the RUC, describing the rioting as “a one-sided attack by a number of republican thugs”. A man is currently in police custody following a dangerous driving pursuit and subsequent arrest on suspicion of multiple offences. The incident began in the early hours of Saturday, 16th November, when police received a report of an assault in the Listooder Park area of Saintfield.

Four Arrested Following Disorder In South Belfast
Four men have been arrested following public disorder incidents in the university area of south Belfast on Thursday, November 14th. Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
