HIGHLAND GAMES OPENS IN GLENARM
THE Earl of Antrim has performed the Opening Ceremony for the World Grand Prix Series Highland Games.
Telecast from Glenarm Castle, the event takes place every 13 and 14 July.
Crowds of people gathered early to catch all the action as Glen Ross and Ireland’s Strongest Man, Martin Campbell, struggle against heavyweight athletes teams from England, Wales, Scotland and Scandinavia for the 2001 ‘Battle of the Celtic Giants’.
Spectators are given a chance to watch themselves enjoying all of the action as, overall winner of last year’s Bremar Games, Steven Aiken, pits his strength against fellow highlanders.
Popular favourites such as helicopter rides, vintage rally, chain saw wood sculpturing archery, children’s activities, hot meals from Jane’s Kitchen and performances by Scottish pipe bands and highland dancers from East Kilbride, are just a few of the highlights guaranteed to please the young at heart.
